Fishing the Pools of the Prophets

Like a fly fisherman hoping to pull one or two nice rainbow trout from each pool of a secluded river, this summer we are fishing the books known as "The Minor Prophets" hoping to catch our limit of relevant truth.

Hosea: A Love That Never Gives Up
  |

Hosea was a prophet who was asked by God to marry an unfaithful woman.  Through his experiences God teaches the ancient people of Israel a powerful lesson about His love.  The principles apply across cultures and centuries to our lives - God calls us to love and obey Him.  When we don't, He doesn't give up on us.  His love never ends!

Joel: A Return Worth Making  |

Joel is called on to warn about an invasion of locusts.  God is sending a strong message to an oblivious people that it is time to return to Him.  In this Father's Day message we also see principles that all fathers can use, in their personal lives and with their children.

Amos: Justice For All  |

Amos was a shepherd and farmer.  He came from the hill country in the south to the capital city in the north and spoke a warning from God.  Even though the nation of Israel was in a time of prosperity it was violating the social laws God had provided to protect the less advantaged.  In the writings of Amos we see the priority that "everybody matters to God."

Obadiah and Jonah:  A Look into God's Heart  |

This message includes a story about riding in an F-14, a warning against the danger of pride and a whale of a insight into how God feels about obedience and repentance.

Micah: Directions - From Hopelessness to Hope  |

There is a universal need for hope!  This 'pool' yields some truths that are definitely 'keepers'.

Nahum and Habakkuk: Yeah God!  Why God?  |

Why do the evil prosper?  Why doesn't God always answer prayer?  These books are full of insight on honesty and faithfulness at their best.

Zephaniah and Haggai: Not Sure?  I'm Here!  |

The danger of pride and the rewards of humility are highlighted in these two books about the nation in post-exile.
