Happy Good Year

Looking Both Ways

This first principle comes from the examples of Mary in Luke 2:19 (looking back) and Moses in Psalm 90:12 (looking ahead).  January is a time to look back at the past year and remember lessons learned - and to look ahead to the new year and make the most of every opportunity.

Putting First Things First

The second principle for a successful year comes from Jesus in Matthew 6:33.  Teaching his disciples about the danger of 'worry' he commands them instead to seek the kingdom of God first and God's righteousness.  In this way, all the other needs of life move to their rightful place in the list of priorities.  The challenge is to make the decision and then to put it into practice.

Balancing Inward and Outward

The third principle comes from Jesus' teaching on what was the greatest commandment.  Our dreams must not only center on what we want to accomplish in this year but also on what God wants to accomplish through us in the lives of others.  Without this balance dreams become ingrown and toxic.

Remembering "Better Together"

This fourth principle is a reminder of the central lesson from our Fall 2005 - 40 Days of Community campaign.  Success is possible in any area of life but the chances of success are much better when individuals partner with one another.  This message reviews the 5 Purposes of life and features teaching from Ecclesiastes 4 and Revelation 2 and 3.

Managing Yourself

The responsibility for making 2007 a great year depends in part on God and in part on you.  Apart from God, you are the single most important person in your own success.  Learning how to manage the physical, mental, social and spiritual dimensions of our lives is something that everyone can do better.   Insights from Psalm 1, 1 Kings 18, Proverbs 4 and more.
